New Dance Music Collective ‘CO-DE’ Launches
A brand new dance music collective, CO-DE has arrived on London’s hit making indie imprint, Perfect Havoc. Their debut single ‘Open Your Eyes’ is the product of leading house producer, Paul Emanuel of Haji & Emanuel; Jamesie, former Ministry of Sound resident, and Gavin McCall, founder of Born To Dance Records. They’ve combined to produce a sound and vision as inspiring as their life stories, influenced by disco grooves and carnival vibes to create a fresh uplifting sound with distinctive bass lines.
A super group by rights, CO-DE have a colourful history of near-death experiences, time spent at HMP and big success in the music industry with multiple hit records …
Paul Emanuel has engineered, co-produced and remixed on some of the biggest hits of all times at Battery Recording studios, and as one half of Club Asylum, while under his Haji & Emanuel moniker (with Seamus Haji) he’s produced and remixed all-time house favourites, Booty Luv ‘Boogie 2nite’ and ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ to name just two.
Jamesie (James Shiers) has a remarkable story. He beat cancer at the age of 22, and now lives with a debilitating form multiple sclerosis. Although it has disrupted his momentum producing and DJing (he was resident DJ for Ministry of Sound on its Scandinavian tours), it’s only inspired him to fulfil his dream in music and give birth to the CO-DE project. No stranger to success, he counts BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM as regular supporters on his tracks such as ‘Never Should’ and ‘Forever’ produced with partner, Karl G.
Gavin McCall (aka Loveable Rogues) is known for running the hugely popular Born To Dance Records and international club night of the same name, and the hit single ‘I’m Alright’, which went on to feature on multiple Hed Kandi compilations. What’s less known about Gavin his time spent in prison. Turning a negative into a positive, Gavin’s rehabilitation brought about a new way of being where he taught DJing and production courses for young offenders, and has since undergone charity work for Keep Out on its Crime Diversion programme, and teaching teenagers with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs at Muntham House School.
The journey of these loveable rogues kick starts with ‘Open Your Eyes’ featuring up and coming UK singer songwriter, Yasmin Jane. The trio met the BBC Introducing artist at a Perfect Havoc roof top party in Dalston and decided she was the one to feature on their debut single. Yasmin’s distinctive tones and meaningful lyrics make her a remarkable talent, evident in her work with cool powerhouse labels like Ninja Tunes, and with producers from Sony, Warner and Universal.
For Perfect Havoc, ‘Open Your Eyes’ marks yet another quality release. It’s now achieved over 200 million streams on Spotify and Apple with tracks from its roster of breaking talent such as Joel Corry, Tobtok, and Kokiri. Its highly tuned ear for both underground and mainstream hits see it continue to license to labels including Atlantic Records, RCA and Columbia, as well as to throw its pop-up parties around the world.
