10 reasons to tune into Velvet Sessions live stream with Groovement, Voyage, Kyle WEC & Jordan Murray

Calling on Groovement, Voyage, Kyle WEC and Jordan Murray, Scottish recording studio The Velvet Lounge & Studio launch debut live stream event Velvet Sessions. The first edition of the series sees a hand-picked line-up of some of Scotland’s top DJs from Perth and Fife on Saturday 8th of August. Kicking off at 5pm, the event promises to be worth ditching the pub for.

Here’s 10 reasons why you should tune into The Velvet Lounge & Studio’s stream this weekend.

1. The launch of Velvet Sessions

Saturday marks the launch of what’s set to be a regular series of live stream events celebrating local music from The Velvet Lounge and Studio. Nestled into Perth nightclub Ice Factory, the recording studio, rehearsal room and creative lounge has rooted connections as a host for the likes of John Digweed, Sasha and Tiesto in its former life as a VIP bar. With such heritage, it only seemed right to kick things off with a line-up of shit hot offering of electronic talent.

2. Jordan Murray’s fair city debut

Jordan Murray will be making his first connection with Perth’s electronic music scene after spending months building up a backing over in Fife. The Society resident has not only played alongside techno giants Frazi.er and Luca De-Santo, but also hosted and curated his own club events. His most recent mix for Edinburgh-based party Version II’s ‘Techno Sessions’ is a perfect sample of Jordan’s taste as a selector. Opting for a balance of moody and melodic with high impact warehouse techno.

3. There’s a producer in the mix

The Velvet Lounge & Studio have called on music producer David Macfarlane to do what he does best behind the mixing desk and broadcast the highest quality audio for the stream. Mirroring each DJ’s unique sound and ramping up the clarity so that when you turn on the speakers, you’ll feel as if you’re in the room with them.

4. Kyle WEC’s almighty homecoming

Growing up in Perth, Kyle WEC was a regular face in the scene with his early days spent behind the decks as a resident Groovement DJ at Perth’s legendary club, Ice Factory. Moving to the bright lights of Glasgow only allowed his talents in music to flourish even more. Now he’s heading up independent record label West End Communications and channelling his mixes out on the airwaves of stations such as EH-FM and Clyde Built Radio. His return to Perth is sure to be a happy dose of nostalgia. Check out his mix for Dundee-based record label Hilltown Disco for a sample of what’s to come on Saturday night’s stream.

5. Voyage takeover

From 8pm the reins will be handed over to another Scottish talent, Voyage‘s Connor Macdonald. Connor’s event nights have brought international scene leaders to the city of Perth including the likes of Sally C, Mella Dee and Denis Sulta. This, along with his own abilities as a DJ to captivate a dancefloor, has established Connor with a loyal following of party-goers who’ll be sure to catch his live set this weekend.

6. Vindicam set to collaborate on the visuals

To capture the best angles of the retro studio, panoramic balcony views and DJs hard at work on the decks, The Velvet Lounge & Studio have called on Vindicam videography. Expect high quality visuals from all aspects of the recording studio!

8. Encore with Groovement?

Drawing the evening of back to back electronic finesse to a close, are local Perth lads Groovement. Founded back in 2013, the collective which is now fronted by Mark Mackinnon and Mike Smith still dominates Perth’s nightlife scene with their regular parties including Scotland’s infamous Rhumba nights (pre-covid, of course). Feel-good house, pumping techno and a few spins of electro can all be expected to blare through the speakers during Groovement’s set. Will there be an encore? We’ll just have to wait and see!

9. Who run the show? Girls.

Yes, you’re seeing another fully mate fronted DJ line-up in the music industry. But, did you know that the The Velvet Lounge & Studio is headed up by two females who also happen to be running Saturday’s event? Shameless self-promo moment; I’m one of the co-owners (Jo Dargie) alongside Perthshire entrepreneur Hollie Irvine.

10. Final reason to tune into Velvet Sessions on Saturday 8th August? Because, why the hell not?

What is there not to love about having a few mates in the back garden, with the fridge stocked up on beers and the sun shining? All sound tracked to the hottest beats in techno and house. Sounds good, right?

Set times for the event are as follows:

18:30 – 19:30 | Kyle WEC
